James Joseph Tassin Jr.

July 13, 1949 – January 6, 2026

IN THE CARE OF
Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home

James Joseph Tassin, Jr. passed away on January 6, 2026 at the age of 76. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late James and Eloise Tassin. Devoted husband of 43 years to Theresa Gros Tassin. Loving father of Tanya Dubroc (Tom) and Denny Tassin (Bethaney). Proud grandfather of Shantelle, Jamie, Brandon, Bradley, Rayven, Rayne and the late Raquel Perez and great-grandfather of 10. Brother of Debbie Autin (Bobby) and Chris Tassin. James is also survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

James was a graduate of West Jefferson High School and proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era, with assignments in South Korea and Germany. He retired from Monsanto in Luling, Louisiana, where he worked as a Contractor Safety Specialist and Deputy Chief of the Emergency Response Team.

James also worked at Avondale Shipyard in the Rigging Department, served as a police officer with the Westwego Police Department, and worked as an EMT for West Jefferson Medical Center. He was a devoted member of the Luling Volunteer Fire Department, where he proudly served for 34 years and retired as Deputy Chief.

James enjoyed golfing and camping with friends, fishing with his dad and uncles, and was a proud member of Doug’s Liars Rodeo. He loved rabbit and duck hunting with his Parran and grandfather, as well as deer hunting trips to Alabama with John and Ross. Above all, James loved helping others—especially his family, especially Debbie, his neighbors, and close friends—and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.

Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation for James on Friday, January 16, 2026 beginning at 9:00 AM at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero. Catholic Service will begin at 1:00 PM and burial will immediately follow at Our Lady Of Prompt Succor Cemetery in Westwego.

In lieu of flowers, family asks that donations be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation, www.t2t.org or to St. Jude Children's Hospital www.stjude.org
