New Fire Hoses and Nozzles

With the recent upgrade of fire hoses and nozzles comes additional training and testing.
Today, Kevin, with Key Hose, performed test to determine the PSI of each new hose and also the friction loss. These are 2 critical components for pump operators when pumping water on fire scenes.

PSI is the pounds per square inch – this determines the speed at which water is passed through the hose.

Friction loss is the resistance that water encounters when it moves through fire hose, which causes a drop in pressure at the end of the hose. This resistance is caused by turbulence created when the water slides against the inside of the house, which reduces the energy produced by the pump.

Knowing the proper pump pressure for each hose lay, attack line, and water-movement function is important.
