Mayday, Mayday, Mayday Members of Luling VFD, Hahnville VFD, Paradis VFD, and Bayou Gauche VFD participated in joint training on Mayday. Mayday is a radio distress signal used to indicate that a firefighter is in immediate danger or needs help. Examples of when a Mayday is called is when a firefighter is lost, trapped, or injured. Firefighters trained on how to call a Mayday, what information should be provided over the radio, common practices and considerations for the Incident Commander including but not limited to acknowledging the Mayday, controlling radio traffic, deployment of a RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) team for rescue operations, notifying dispatch of the Mayday, and making adjustments to the IAP (incident action plan). Discussions were held throughout the training on all aspects of a Mayday call. Training was conducted by Luling VFD Training Chief, Stephen Stromeyer. If you are interested in becoming a member please stop at Station 21 on Paul Maillard Road in Luling for information. |
